We are committed to providing customers with high-quality and low-price steel products as its goal, and strives to create value for customers as its own responsibility.
In engineering projects, the selection of STEEL PIPE directly affects cost, schedule, and safety. Seamless pipes offer high strength but are expensive, while welded pipes offer better cost-effectiveness but require careful attention to manufacturing standards—which one is more suitable for your project?
Steel pipes are core pressure-bearing components of industrial infrastructure, widely used in energy transmission, building structures, machinery manufacturing, and municipal engineering. Classified by forming process, mainstream products are divided into seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes. Seamless steel pipes are integrally formed through a hot-working process involving piercing, rolling, and sizing, resulting in a seamless pipe body. Welded steel pipes, on the other hand, are made from steel plates or strips through rolling, forming, high-frequency/submerged arc welding, and subsequent heat treatment. Although both belong to the steel pipe category, they exhibit systematic differences in microstructure, stress distribution, dimensional tolerances, and batch stability. For example, ASTM A106/A53 standards clearly distinguish the applicable temperature range and hydrostatic testing requirements for the two types of products; while GB/T 8162 and GB/T 3091 further refine the mechanical performance acceptance thresholds for the Chinese market.
Based on data from 217 typical purchase orders in East China over the past three years, we have constructed a multi-dimensional evaluation model covering the following key indicators:
As a frontline procurement manager, you need to dynamically balance technical compliance, delivery rigidity, cost flexibility, and supply chain resilience. We recommend the following structured approach:
Maxwell Steel (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. has been deeply involved in steel manufacturing and export for over 15 years, holding ISO 9001:2015, PED 2014/68/EU, and API Q1 certifications. We possess end-to-end quality control capabilities, from raw material inspection and process SPC control to third-party re-inspection of finished products. We not only supply STEEL PIPE, but also provide matching profiles such as Stainless Steel H Beam, Carbon Steel Angle Bar, and Stainless Steel Channel Bar, supporting one-stop procurement for EPC general contractors. If you are struggling to choose between seamless and welded pipes, please contact the Maxwell Steel technical procurement support team.
